THE CRITICAL QUESTION

Earlier today, the phone rang and a young woman sounded flustered as she relayed the details of beginning to write her personal statement for her college applications.  Her college advisor thinks that she should focus on her love for learning, but the story that she would end up telling is not entirely true.  Others think that she should focus on her activities – she’s such a leader in her school and local community, but that didn’t resonate with her either.  Parents, friends and other concerned parties all have ideas about what the colleges want to hear – about what would help her to be admitted.

But no one was asking the critical question – what does SHE think?

WHERE TO START?

There is so much that good students must do to be admitted to great colleges.  Do well on standardized testing.  Write a phenomenal, yet unique essay.  Answer a ton of supplemental questions.  Figure out which schools to apply to in the first place.
And then how do I visit?  What should I say?  How do I find the right college for me?
It doesn’t all start with figuring out what the colleges are thinking.  It doesn’t even begin in the college guidance office.  A great college process should start with what YOU think.
